Frequently Asked Questions

Can you tell me on how long it may be to learn if I will receive care at Island Kids Academy?

We require one month’s notice of termination of care and cannot typically predict when openings will occur, therefore it is almost impossible to determine the length of waiting time. If a space comes available, we know this on the first of the month prior to the opening and call individuals at the top of our waitlist as soon as possible. Our most predictable movement occurs in September each year, when our oldest children move to elementary school and everyone moves up in age group, resulting in openings mostly in our youngest programs. Calls for September spaces often happen in the spring or early summer.

Can I get a tour of the space?

Currently we only offer one-on-one tours to families only if a space is available for them. We do not offer tours in advance of availability, as the volume of tours requested would be disruptive to our children and programs.

How should I let you know I am still looking for a space?

Our focus is always on the children in our care, so we ask families not to call or arrive at the center to inquire about child care. The only way we answer questions is via email (address is provided once you complete a form submission). As soon as we have a space available, we contact families in order of the list.

Can I do something to get a space sooner?

To offer spaces in a fair way, we respect the order of the families that they are on the waitlist. The only thing that can help us to offer a family an earlier space is if there is flexibility in the days you are requesting, as our part-time spaces are matched with children currently in care.

What are your fees?

After filling out the form submission to be added to our waitlist you will receive an auto response that includes some great general information along with our current fees.

I have been on the list for a while, can I call you or email for an update?

We don’t usually know availability until about a month ahead, therefore it is difficult for us to offer reliable information. There are too many unpredictable factors such as individuals who are ahead but no longer need the space, or individuals who joined the waitlist earlier and have now become old enough for care. We ask that all necessary waitlist communication comes via email, however, it is most reliable to trust that when we have an opening, we will contact families in order of the waitlist.

The month I need care is here or has past what do I do now?

Unless you no longer need care we will keep your child on the current list and occasionally email families if they would like to remain on the list. It is up to you to ensure your information is accurate by emailing us and notifying us if you no longer need care.
